Chief Executive
Rhian Huws Williams
Rhian is a qualified social worker and has worked in the social care sector in Wales since 1979. In 1988, she was appointed by the Central Teaching Council for Education and Training in Social Workers (CCETSW) to lead its work in Wales.
Rhian became Head of National Office for CCETSW Cymru in 1994. She was also part of the UK Senior Management Team for CCETSW, shaping UK social work, social care development policy and strategy, as well as leading the work in Wales.
Director of Regulation and Professional Standards
Gerry Evans
Gerry Evans began as Director of Standards and Regulation with the Care Council in September 2002. Prior to that he was the Acting Director of Research and Development for Health and Social Care at the National Assembly for Wales.
He has over 20 years of experience in research and development projects focusing on work with older people, people with learning disabilities and wider social care and health service delivery.
Director of Operations and Corporate Services
Joanne Oak
Joanne joined the Care Council in September 2011 as Director of Corporate Resources and Services with responsibility for Finance, Human Resources, Communication, Student Funding and Planning and Performance.
A qualified accountant and a member of the Association of Certified Charted Accountants, Joanne has over 15 years experience working in finance across public and third sector organisations. Her former role was Business Director for the Wales Co-operative Centre, where she played a major role in driving the organisation through growth and change from a turnover and staff compliment of £1.1 Million, 15 staff to £8 Million, 60 staff.
With passion and drive for excellence Joanne is delighted to be working for an organisation with values and responsibility for securing high standards across the social services ensuring the social care workforce is professional, skilled and sustainable.
Director of Learning and Development
Roberta Hayes
Roberta commenced in her role as Director of Learning and Development on the 1 February 2010.
Roberta was born and brought up in Dublin Ireland and gained her degree in History and Political Science at Trinity College Dublin. She then crossed the water to take up a Social Work Trainee post with Barnardo's West Midlands Division.
She completed her CQSW at Wrexham NEWI now Glyndwr University. Roberta then moved to work with Clwyd County Council as a social worker with children with disabilities and their families.
The theme of learning and development has characterised her career in social care and she is very pleased to bringing this experience to the post of Director of Learning and Development for the Care Council for Wales.
