Adult Workforce
Priorities for this year
The Care Council annual business plan sets out a number of important priorities to promote a safe, skilled and sufficient workforce working with adults with social care needs and their carers. Several of these priorities have emerged from work undertaken last year, including a major ‘care at home’ workforce research study. In addition, there are exciting new developments taking place in social work education and training, in particular a proposed new framework for the on-going training and learning of social workers after qualifying (the CPEL framework). Sustainable Social Services for Wales: A Framework for Action provides the policy context and underpins all of the work.
Working with our partners and with service users and carers to progress shared priorities is essential. This year, there will be additional efforts to engage more actively with front line practitioners (which was another message from the ‘care at home’ research).
Priorities include:
Developments to support the workforce working with older people, including older people with dementia
Development of a governance framework for the health and social care support (generic) worker role
Actions to more actively support the workforce working with Carers
Research to better understand the workforce working with people with a learning disability
Development of Continuing Professional Education and Learning: A Framework for Social Workers in Wales (the CPEL Framework)
Acting on the major research study to understand the current and future ‘care at home’ workforce
Promoting the Codes of Practice through the Confidence in Care campaign
