Health and Social Care Support (generic) worker role

The Care at Home workforce study highlighted examples of local authorities and local health boards in Wales discussing and piloting new types of worker whose role includes both health and social care tasks.

During 2011/12, the Care Council is working with the National Leadership and Innovation Agency for Healthcare (NLIAH) to develop a governance framework for these health and social care support worker roles (HSCSW). It is anticipated that the framework will be a useful resource for employers, HSCSWs and the public by clarifying a number of issues relating to this part of the workforce.

The Framework will:

  • Identify the governance issues in relation to the HSCSW role and functions
  • Provide clarity on the legal position and recommended governance arrangements for health and social care workers, thereby promoting safe practice
  • Contribute to good risk management
  • Provide guidance on training and qualifications
