The Care Council for Wales is responsible for promoting and securing high standards across the early years and childcare workforce. We aim to ensure that this workforce in Wales has the right skills and qualifications to work to a high professional standard, and is capable of delivering high quality service.

Early Years News

Early Years News Issue 3 is now available.

Guides for employers

The Care Council has published a series of good practice guides for the Early Years and Childcare sector in Wales. These guides aim to support managers and senior practitioners.

Guides in the series include 'Recruiting Well' which is a guide to safe recruitment and 'Inducting Well' which is a guide to effective induction.

Supervising Well and Appraising Well - This new publication provides a step by step guidance for everyone responsible for carrying out supervision and appraisal with early years and childcare practitioners.

Early Years and Childcare Induction Framework

The Early Years and Childcare Induction Framework provides a structured start for workers in the first 12 weeks of employment.

Qualification Framework

List of Accepted Qualifications for Early Years and Childcare Workforce in Wales is available to download.

The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) Diplomas at levels 2, 3, and 5 are the replacement qualifications for current vocational provision including National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).

Business IT Guide Website

The Sector Skills Council has developed a website called Business IT Guide which is of use to small business and enables them to make the right IT decisions.

This website offers a wide range of services to small businesses, including advice on what IT equipment to buy, advice about promoting your business, guidance about how to set up a home office and how to put your business online.
