Current priorities and activities

A key message in the policy document Sustainable Social Services for Wales: A Framework for Action (Welsh Government, 2011) is the need for professional, competent, confident and safe managers and workers to provide excellent, front line social services.
The Care Council has responded by establishing a dedicated work programme with the overall aim of developing the social work workforce. In 2012 – 13 the priorities for this work programme include:
- consultation on the Continuing Professional Education and Learning Framework (CPEL) linked to the career structure for the social work profession in Wales and the implementation of the CPEL framework;
- scoping a programme of work on the professional governance framework for social work;
- development of the social services practitioner role;
- completion of the review of the rules for the social work degree and publication of new rules
