Employer Investment Fund - Mobile knowledge and learning solutions
Skills for Care and Development through the partner work of the Care Council is offering employers in Wales the chance to get involved in an exciting new learning project, focusing on using mobile devices for knowledge and learning.      Â
Perhaps you are wondering what is meant by a mobile device? If you use a mobile phone, an iPad, or another tablet computer, or even a game-playing device you are already familiar with these. If you use them when you want to find out the latest news or see how your football team are doing, you are already accessing learning through a mobile device!
The project will be using this type of technology to develop a range of learning resources and services for the social care sector. These learning resources will be freely available and will be able to be used on things like Smartphones, “tablet computers”, and other handheld consoles. This means that both staff and employers will benefit by being able to undertake the learning wherever they happen to be and won’t need to leave the workplace to learn.Â
There are lots of topics, knowledge and learning that are suitable for learning in this way but since the results of this work will be accessed by workers and employers in the sector, hearing your opinion at the start of the project is vital. What are YOUR thoughts about using mobile knowledge and learning? What do YOU think would be good to put on a mobile device? For example, induction topics or learning about nutrition. Â
Examples of mobile technology for learning currently available include the Care Council’s own app, which gives social workers and social care workers a new way to look up their Code of Practice. The Scottish Social Services Council have also developed a Health & Safety app, links to the themes of the core units of the Scottish Vocational Qualifications in Health & Social Care and is available on iTunes’ app store.
Please provide some feedback to Dyfan.jones@ccwales.org.uk   Your comments and ideas are all useful and welcome. Help the Care Council to support you by developing a range of really useful learning resources that you need and you want. The Care Council look forward to hearing from you!    Â
