Social Worker Events and Consultations
The Care Council operates as an open and accountable organisation, working in partnership with others, and as such considers consulting with and to its stakeholders and the social care sector to be a key element of our work.

Our consultations
Effective consultation is essential to ensure that we are a credible, listening organisation and that the views of our key stakeholders and the sector are incorporated, where relevant, into our work.
An important part of this process is also about publishing the outcomes of our consultations. This completes the consultation cycle and enables contributors to feel that they have been part of the process and that their views have been taken into consideration.
Consultation aims
In undertaking consultations we aim to:
- be clear about the purpose and aims of consultation, and set out what we are trying to achieve;
- use plain language, without jargon, in Welsh and English and, where requested, in languages and formats accessible to all;
- explain any financial, legal or other limitations so we do not raise expectations;
- use a range of appropriate participation methods so everyone can be involved in ways that suit them;
- feedback how responses have been included in the decision making process;
- ensure no relevant groups or communities are excluded;
- use realistic timetables and allow a reasonable time for responses;
- use good practice and keep staff informed and well trained;
- monitor and evaluate our participation practices and learn from any mistakes;
- not carry out consultation for its own sake, or to justify decisions already made.
Effective consultation encompasses five guiding principles:
- building consultation into plans;
- consulting early;
- writing documents in simple language;
- giving consultees time to reply;
- reporting back on results.
