First Year as a Manager: Practice Guidance aims to help develop and enhance the knowledge and skills of newly appointed early years managers.

First Year as a Manager: Practice GuidanceFirst Year as a Manager: Practice Guidance contributes to on-going work to professionalise the early years workforce and is a source of information and reference to support new early years managers in their managerial role.

Sioned Williams, Head of Innovation and Development said, “This resource will be a real asset to any new manager. It gives managers top tips and prompts about things to consider. There are examples of good management practice along with links to other tools, resources and organisations.

“We have developed this complementary resource to meet needs identified by new managers and it adds to the suite of existing materials we have developed for the early years sector.”

The resource is split into two sections – Managing people and Managing the business. The first section looks at how managers can develop themselves; how they develop, manage and communicate with their team; and performance management.

The second section is about managing the business and considers the implementation of national frameworks; policies, procedures and practice; planning and organising; business planning; financial management; and marketing.
