Holding hearings in public

The Care Council for Wales (Fitness to Practise) Rules 2014, Part V, 38(1) and the Care Council for Wales (Conduct) Rules 2011, Schedule 1, 8(1)say that Fitness to Practise Committee hearings and Conduct hearings, respectively, should be held in public, unless the Committee decides that there are exceptional circumstances which justify the hearing or part of it being held in private.

Even where a Fitness to Practise Committee or a Conduct Committee decides to hear a case in private, the outcome should be announced in public.

The public has a right to attend any part of a hearing that takes place in public. So that  members of the public can observe a hearing, the Care Council will publish the date, time and venue of the hearing and the name of the registrant concerned one month before the hearing date.

Hearing information is published in accordance with the Publication of Hearing Information Policy
