National Social Work Student Forum 2010
21 October 2010

Location: Newport YMCA Conference Centre
Organiser: Sheila Lyons, Care Council for Wales

The Care Council for Wales is the social care workforce regulator in Wales. Our responsibilities include the publication and promotion of the Code of Practice for Social Care Workers, the approval and quality assurance of social work training courses (at both qualifying and post qualifying level), the registration of social workers and social work students, undertaking conduct investigations and the administration of student bursaries and other funding.

The Care Council is arranging a one day national Forum for social work students. This will include representatives of social work degree students from the 8 social work degree courses in Wales and representatives of social workers on post qualifying courses. The aim of the Forum is to promote communication and discussion between the Care Council and social work students about social work education and training. The agenda will include:

  • informing students about the Care Council and its work
  • facilitating discussion on key areas such as social work education and training; career pathways; the Code of Practice; conduct related matters and the funding of social work training
  • obtaining views on developing the concept of a student forum.

The Forum will be held on

Thursday 21 October 2010, 10.30am – 3.30pm

Newport YMCA Conference Centre, Mendalgief Road, Newport which is a short bus ride from Newport Central Station.
