SOCIAL CARE CONDUCT COMMITTEE HEARING
13 April 2010

A Care Council for Wales Conduct Committee hearing will be held in Cardiff on Wednesday, 21 April to consider allegations of misconduct against a registered residential child care worker.

Lee Barnard, a former employee of Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, is accused of misconduct following his conviction for the offence of unlawful wounding contrary to section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861for which he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court in 2009.

The hearing will take place from 10am at the Novotel Hotel, Cardiff.

The Care Council is the social care workforce regulator in Wales. By registering with the Care Council, social workers are accountable for their conduct and practice. Action may be taken where the Conduct Committee agrees the allegations amount to misconduct. This means a worker may be removed from the Social Care Register and therefore would not be able to practice as a social worker in the UK.

Such sanctions are a part of the Care Council’s drive to improve the social care services used by around 150,000 people at any one time in Wales, and raise public confidence in those services.
