Social Care Conduct Committee Hearing to be Held in Cardiff
11 May 2010

A Care Council for Wales Conduct Committee hearing will be held in Cardiff on Tuesday, 18 May to consider allegations of misconduct against a social care worker.

It is alleged that John Holland, a former employee of Castle Care Group Ltd, while working as a Residential Support Worker, took employment elsewhere whilst taking sickness absence and claiming statutory sick pay. In addition, it is also alleged that he claimed from the Castle Care Group Sickness Insurance Scheme and failed to disclose to them that he was also working for another employer.

The hearing will take place from 10am at the Holiday Inn, Cardiff.

The Care Council is the social care workforce regulator in Wales. By registering with the Care Council, social care workers are accountable for their conduct and practice. Action may be taken where the Conduct Committee agrees the allegations amount to misconduct. This means a residential child care worker may be removed from the Social Care Register and therefore would not be able to work in Wales.

Such sanctions are a part of the Care Council’s drive to improve the social care services used by around 150,000 people at any one time in Wales, and raise public confidence in those services.
