Care Council Welcomes White Paper Announcement
7 July 2010
The Care Council has welcomed the Deputy Minister’s intention to produce a White Paper on the future of social services.
Arwel Ellis Owen, Chair of the Care Council, said: "This is a very positive step to help build a bright future for social services in Wales which reflects the increase in demand for support for frail older people and for children and families who have complex needs. For the Care Council, it provides us with an excellent opportunity to use our experience to inform the agenda. It can be easy to forget the staff who are expected to deliver the services and how we need to make sure they are supported to achieve the standards that are expected of them and the qualifications they can achieve.
"This is a dynamic period for social care in Wales and one in which all partners in this work have a key role to play. A fundamental principle of delivering safe, high-quality care in Wales is that we do it as one ‘family’ of organisations working together. In working to implement the plan that will be set out in this White Paper, we should not lose sight of that unique principle that gives us the strength and ability to deliver successfully," he added.
