The Social Care Accolades are awards that recognise and celebrate outstanding achievement by teams, groups and organisations providing social care in Wales.
We are all likely to know someone, family or friends, receiving some kind of social care. On any given day, 150,000 people receive professional care in Wales. These awards, therefore, touch all corners of our communities.
Established by the Care Council for Wales in 2005, the Accolades are regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the social care profession. They are held every two years. All arrangements are managed by the Care Council, with support from six of the social care industry’s most well-regarded organisations.
Not only are the Accolades an excellent way to recognise workers whose tremendous efforts often go unnoticed, they also provide outstanding sponsorship opportunities for organisations that wish to align themselves with work that benefits all parts of the community.
In return, sponsors are offered a range of commercial benefits that represent true value-for-money, over and above the satisfaction of supporting those who help so many vulnerable people in our society.
The bad weather last January highlighted the typical commitment and tenacity of social care workers to overcome adversity and deliver services to those vulnerable people who are reliant on their support. Stories of care workers who walked miles through deep snow and of those who stayed overnight at residential homes to ensure there was no break in service were common all over Wales.
It’s that kind of professionalism and dedication to high-quality service that the Social Care Accolades seek to highlight.
The Accolades are about recognising the efforts of teams as opposed to individuals and they invite entries from all kinds of organisations, including those from the public, private and voluntary sectors.
As the Care Council is responsible for the regulation and development of the social care workforce in Wales, the Accolades encourage entries that show how they have invested in the learning and development of their staff to help deliver excellent service to the people they support. Those people can range from very young children in day nurseries to older people living at home or in residential care homes.
The Accolades are publicised extensively among the 88,000 social care workers in Wales and usually attract scores of entries for the awards categories.

The Accolades culminate in a prestigious and glittering lunchtime ceremony, which is attended by more than 200 people, with awards being presented by the Deputy Minister for Social Services. To get a better flavour of the ceremony and the kinds of projects that get recognition view the film.
However, it doesn’t all end there. The unique feature of the Accolades is that they don’t end at the awards ceremony. What comes afterwards is equally important, as the Care Council arranges best practice sharing events at which winning projects can share their experiences and expertise with colleagues from around Wales. In so doing, the Accolades can truly help raise the general standard of social care around the country.
And, of course, more events mean more exposure and benefits for our sponsors!
