SOCIAL CARE WEEK: New interactive online tool offers new way to find a career in social care and early years Back
A new interactive online tool has been developed to help young people looking for a career in social care or early years.
The Career Guidance Tool for Social Care or Early Years, developed by the Care Council for Wales, provides easy access to information on the jobs, personal attributes and qualifications needed to follow a career in social care or early years. The tool, available on the Care Council’s website, will not only help those looking for a career, but also careers advisors.
Launching the interactive online tool to coincide with Social Care Week, Roberta Hayes, Director of Learning and Development at the Care Council, said: "The new online career guidance tool is very much a response to feedback we’ve received from partners and key stakeholders, who wanted an easy-to-follow way for the public to get easy access to accurate information about a career in social care.
“We know that the demand for care is likely to increase over the coming years, which means we need plenty of high-quality workers to meet that challenge. This kind of online tool can play a part in ensuring a sustainable social care and early years workforce by raising the profile of the profession as a rewarding career and providing information to help individuals select the kinds of jobs that suit their skills and experience. The intuitive design of the tool makes it user-friendly by steering the user through a number of questions and options to reach the job role that should be most suited to them,” she added.
In developing the interactive online tool, the Care Council consulted widely on the content and how it should be navigated. Early indications are that it will be received positively by professionals involved in careers advice.
Ani Jones of Careers Wales commented: “The new tool is relevant and detailed, easy to read, and suitable for a variety of audiences.”
A school teacher from Ysgol Friars said: “It’s easy to read and not too much for pupils to access as a guide, with a good use of bullet points on skills and qualifications needed. The tool is much better than page after page for pupils to read.”
