A New Governance Framework for Workers in Health and Social Care Support Role Back

A Health and Social Care Workernew governance framework for workers in health and social care support roles has been published jointly by the National Leadership and Innovation Agency for Healthcare (NLIAH) and the Care Council.

The Governance Framework is designed to address the increasing trend and need to develop roles which can span both health and social care services in Wales.

The Framework was developed following discussion with managers and practitioners and pooling their ideas and experiences. It is designed to be used as a self - assessment checklist. It is divided into themes (such as Leadership and accountability, Service design and Education, training and development). Each theme includes prompts for consideration and links and references to supporting tools and resources.

Sheila Lyons Workforce Development Manager at the Care Council said: “The potential benefits of the health and social care worker role include the ability to respond to what service users and carers have said they need such as reducing the number of visits and personnel providing care and support.”

During 2012 / 13 the Care Council and NLIAH will continue to work together to disseminate and promote the Framework.
