Honour at National Eisteddfod for Arwel Ellis Owen Back
On Friday, 10 August, Arwel Ellis Owen, Chair of the Care Council for Wales was inaugurated into the Gorsedd of the Bards at the Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod for his contribution to journalism and the media in Wales.
The Gorsedd is a society of individuals who have made a notable contribution to the nation, its language and culture. It is responsible for the pageantry of the National Eisteddfod including the Chairing, Crowning and Prose Medal ceremonies on the main festival stage.
Reflecting on the occasion, Arwel said, “It was one of those perfect days, with beautiful weather and my family and friends surrounding me. The wonderful ceremony was set among the gorsedd stones, and I felt immensely privileged to be honoured in this way.”
Arwel has enjoyed a successful career in broadcasting, working as News Editor for BBC Wales, Head of Programmes at the BBC in Northern Ireland, Chair of the International Film School and temporary Chief Executive at S4C. He has greatly influenced the media, and has received international acclaim for his work. He is currently Chair of the Care Council for Wales and past Vice-President of the National Library of Wales.
