Level 1 Award Qualification

12 credits to gain the Level 1 Award.

The level 1 award in Introduction to Health and Social Care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare aims to give learners a broad introduction to the scope of the sector, career opportunities as well as some understanding of essential principles and values and working safely.

The award is for use in Wales and Northern Ireland.

The qualification will not confer occupational competence but provides progress to:

> Level 1 certificate and diploma in Introduction to Health and Social Care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare

or the level 2 diplomas in:

> Health and Social Care (adults)

or

> Children’s Care, Learning and Development

Level 1 Certificate Qualification

Minimum 30 credits to gain the Level 1 Certificate

The level 1 certificate in Introduction to Health and Social Care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare aims to give learners a broad introduction to the scope of the sectors, career opportunities, an understanding of essential principles and values, working safely and knowledge of a range of areas to include early years and child care, disability, human growth and development and the importance of healthy eating.

The certificate is for use in Wales and Northern Ireland.

Level 1 Diploma Qualification

Minimum credits to gain the Level 1 diploma is 39

The Level 1 Diploma in introduction to Health and Social Care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare (Wales and Northern Ireland) aims to give learners a broader introduction to the scope of the sectors, career opportunities, an understanding of essential principles and values, working safely and knowledge of a range of areas to include early years and child care, disability, human growth and development and the importance of healthy eating.

The diploma offers a wider range of optional units than the certificate.

The qualification will not confer occupational competence but provides progress to the Level 1 diploma in Introduction to Health and Social Care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare (Wales and Northern Ireland) or the level 2 diplomas in:

> Health and Social Care (adults)

and

> Children’s Care, Learning and Development
