If yes, you should consider a career in social care or social work.
They are both very much a people profession and involve supporting people at times in their lives when they may have experienced trauma or when they are having difficulties coping with changes in their family circumstances, their physical or mental wellbeing. This means that it can sometimes be challenging, but ultimately very rewarding.
Most of us, in some way will become users of social care services at some time in our lives. With 150,000 people in Wales receiving care services at any one time, we need to ensure that there is a sufficient and appropriately skilled workforce to deliver the broad range of services required. Above all we are working to ensure that this workforce consists of people who share our determination to put service users at the heart of the agenda and ensure that the vulnerable people in our communities have the support they need to transform their lives for the better.
If you value other people, are interested in making sure that they are able to live independently and with dignity, then social care could be ideal for you.
If you are a patient, determined, sensitive and mature person who is easy to trust, is good at assessing situations and can stay calm in a crisis then social work could be a great career choice for you.
