Children's Care Learning and Development

The Children’s Care Learning and Development (CCLD)National Occupational Standards were developed in partnership across the UK Sector Skills councils following a UK-wide review of the NOS is Early Years Care in Education in 2003 / 2004. The standards are for people who work with children from 0 -16 years (and their families) in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development.

The standards have been designed to provide a basis for work with children in many settings and services and are based on a set of principles and values that reflect the needs and rights of the child.

An incremental review of these NOS was completed in 2008. They were approved for use in the UK by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) in 2009.

Review 2011 of the National Occupational Standards for Children's Care Learning and Development

These standards are currently being reviewed. Events and an online survey were carried out in May and June which provided the sector with an opportunity to feedback on each of the standards and inform the review process. There will be further opportunities to feedback on the first draft of the revised NOS in the autumn.
