QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Management) (Wales and Northern Ireland)
Introduction
The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care, Learning and Development Services (Management) Wales and Northern Ireland is one of the replacement qualifications for NVQ level 4 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development and NVQ L4 Leadership and Management for Care Services (LMCS).
QCF level 5 is equivalent to NQF (NVQ) level 4. This qualification is therefore not set at a higher level than the NVQ being replaced. There will be no expectation for learners holding their NVQ level 4 qualification to complete any additional units or top ups to meet regulatory or registration requirements.
The Diploma is for use in Wales and Northern Ireland* and learners will be able to register from January 2011.
It will confer occupational competence to work in a management role.
Diploma Structure
Learners must achieve a minimum of 90 credits to achieve this qualification. These are made up of 64 credits from Mandatory Group A, a minimum of 12 credits from Optional Group B and the remaining 14 credits to be taken from Optional Groups B and C.

Is Level 5 (management) for me?
The level 5 Diploma (management) is for managers, deputy managers and assistant managers who work within Early years and childcare settings.
Learners who have completed the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership Children’s Care, Learning and Development (advanced practice) Wales and Northern Ireland will only need to complete a number of ‘top up’ units to achieve this qualification.

All units must be assessed in accordance with Skills for Care and Development QCF Assessment Principles and the Regulatory arrangements for the Qualifications and Credit Framework.
