Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) Wales and Northern Ireland

The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (HSC) (Adults) Wales and Northern Ireland is the replacement qualification for current vocational provision including NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care (HSC).

The Diploma is for use in Wales and Northern Ireland and learners will be able to register from January 2011.

The level 2 Diploma is for practitioners who work or aim to work in a health and social care setting.

Diploma Structure

Learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits to achieve this qualification. These are made up of 24 credits from Mandatory Group A, a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional units in Group B* and at least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C.

*SS MU 2.1 Introductory Awareness of Sensory Loss is required for social care workers in Wales.

HSC Structure Diploma Level 2

It will confer occupational competence to work within specialised HSC roles and can provide progression to the Level 3 Diploma in HSC (Adult Pathway)

    Residential services for adults
    Community based Domiciliary Services
    Day Services for adults

Examples of job roles who would undertake the level 2 Diploma include those who are working under supervision, such as:

    Social Care Worker/Officer/Assistant
    Home Carer
    Family Aide
    Family Support Worker
    Senior Domiciliary Care Worker/Officer
    Senior Home Carer/Family Aide
    Day Services Worker/Officer/Assistant
