Credit and Qualification Framework for Wales
CQFW in Social Care, Early Years and Childcare - Quality Assured Lifelong Learning (QALL)
The Care Council for Wales has been leading on an exciting project that has been exploring the accreditation of quality assured lifelong learning in social care, early years and childcare, which will form part of the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales. The project has included a number of pilots across a wide range of services and the Care Council are now ready to open up the opportunity for others to engage in the accreditation of quality assured lifelong learning.
What is quality assured lifelong learning?
Lifelong learning covers the whole range of learning – formal, informal and workplace learning. It also includes the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that people acquire in their day to day experiences.
Quality assured lifelong learning is that which is assessed, measured, recorded and certificated i.e. accredited. This is in addition to the qualifications delivered as part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and Higher Education (HE).
What are the benefits of accredited learning?
There are many benefits to both employers and workers of using accredited learning, these include:
- Value and recognition of learning undertaken by the workforce.
- Opportunities for recognised continuing professional development.
- Evidence of achievement that is quality assured.
- Provision of opportunities to take steps towards achievement of formal qualifications.
- Accreditation of specialist training or learning with a specific Welsh perspective.
- Provision of evidence to regulators and commissioners of quality assured learning of the workforce.
How do I accredit learning?
The Care Council has developed a guide ‘Recognition of Quality Assured Lifelong Learning on the Credit and Qualifications Framework Wales in Social Care, Early Years and Childcare’ which focuses on the accreditation of quality assured lifelong learning for social care, early years and childcare in Wales. This will be available in early January 2012.
