Quality assured lifelong learning accredited as part of the pilot project

The following work has been endorsed by the Care Council since the start of the project. The information below gives some idea of the sort of learning that can be accredited. Click on the links to view the units. This page will continue to be updated as the project progresses.

Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS)

The innovative IFSS model aims to reform services provided to vulnerable children and families in Wales. For families with complex issues there is an increased likelihood that the child’s physical, social and emotional development will be impaired and that for some children there will be repeated or long term episodes of being looked after by the local authority. The main aim of IFSS is to support families to stay together by empowering them to take positive steps to improve their lives.

A total of 11 units were endorsed; these range from level 2 to level 6 and cover a range of methods and techniques that can be used to build stronger families. Each unit is ‘restricted’- this means that only the awarding organisation who have developed the unit with the IFSS team, in this case Agored Cymru, can use them. There is also a requirement that the assessment of the units can only be carried out by practitioners approved by the Welsh Government Integrated Family Support Services implementation team. This is a way of protecting specialist units that have been developed for a specific purpose as part of a wider programme or to meet particular needs.

The units can be accessed via Agored webpage, 11 endorsed units

Child and Family Training

Child and Family Training is a non-profit organisation working to promote evidence-based assessments and interventions with children and families.

Child and Family Training provide assessment tools and training courses that are designed for professionals in health, children's social care, education, the police force and voluntary organisations who work with children and families. A range of units have been developed for quality assured lifelong learning for those involved in working in child and family social work where the assessment of families in complex child care cases is undertaken. These units are restricted to the use of City and Guilds who are the awarding organization who supported the development of these units.

Six units were endorsed for Child and Family Training:

Assess Families Using the Family Assessment

Assessing Families in Complex Child Care Cases

Assess Parenting and the Family Life of Children Using the HOME Inventory

Assessing Parenting and the Family Life of Children Using Evidence Based Assessment Tools

Facilitate Learning in Assessing Parenting and the Family Life of Children

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a two day workshop that offers intensive training for front-line workers and community members. The emphasis is on teaching suicide first-aid to help a person at risk stay safe and seek further help as needed. ASIST provides practical training for caregivers seeking to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. A single unit has been developed at level 4 on ‘managing suicide interventions’ for those who attend this training. As this is specialist learning, the unit is restricted to use by ILM who are the awarding organisation that provided support to Mind Cymru to develop the unit. This programme is now being delivered. More information will follow later.
