Induction Framework

Review of the Social Care Induction Framework

The Social Care Induction Framework (SCIF) is currently being reviewed. Further information will be available here about its progress.

What is the Social Care Induction Framework 2008?

The Social Care Induction Framework 2008 (Induction Framework) has replaced the first Induction Framework which was published by the Care Council in 2002. The Framework provides a structured start for workers in the first 12 weeks of employment.

The Induction Framework can be used as a tool for managers to audit the skills, knowledge and experience of new staff, and will help identify their development needs. Each outcome within the Induction Framework is closely linked with NVQ core units at each level, and will also provide evidence towards optional and additional units. The Framework is also mapped to the Care Council for Wales’ Code of Practice which explains what is considered acceptable behaviour for social care workers and what people receiving services should expect. The published framework is a set of outcomes that can be achieved through planned learning. These outcomes can be used by organisations to inform their own induction programmes.

Four documents are available for download in both Word and Pdf format; these include the framework itself, guidance on using the framework, a progress log to record against outcomes, and a certificate of completion.

The archive document of the Induction Framework 2002 is available if you do need to refer to it.
