Qualification Framework

Developing the Framework

The sector, and the Care Council for Wales, supports the development of a Qualification Framework which establishes and promotes career progression, and which ensures that assessed learning contributes towards gaining vocationally based qualifications. From development it has been the intention to review and update the Framework in order to ensure it continues to reflect, and meet, the needs of the sector.

The Care Council’s Qualification Framework Development Group (QFDG) (now Qualifications and Standards Sub Committee (QSSC)) was established to oversee this work (Further information can be found at Appendix1.

Group members are representative of all parts of the sector and include those with specialist knowledge and skills. The main objective of the QSSC is to review and update the contents of the Qualification Framework to ensure that it continues to meet the sector’s needs. Qualifications are placed on the Framework if they have met agreed criteria (Appendix 2).

The revised Framework has also been considered by, and has received the support of, the Care Sector Liaison Group. This Group includes ACCAC, Awarding Bodies, Estyn, Colegau Cymru and the Care Council. The issues covered by the Group include strategic matters in relation to qualification development.

Appendix 1 lists members who are currently on the Qualifications and Standards Sub Committee (QSSC)

Appendix 2 contains the criteria agreed with the Councils in Scotland and Northern Ireland and England.
