Health and Social Care and Leadership and Management of Care Service

The Health and Social Care (HSC) and Leadership and Management of Care Services (LMCS) National Occupational Standards (NOS) have been developed specifically for those working in leading and health and social care services across the UK.

For ease of use, the standards within these suites have been grouped into functional areas with links to examples of how they can be used as an effective tool for individuals, managers and organisations.

The HSC NOS are jointly owned by Skills for Care and Development (Care Council for Wales; Northern Ireland Social Care Council; Skills for Care (England); Scottish Social Services) and Skills for Health.

The LMCS NOS are jointly owned by Skills for Care and Development.

The Care Council has developed a Guide to National Occupational Standards for social care, early years and childcare that provides detailed advice and guidance on their use.

This standard identifies the requirements when promoting the holistic development of children and young people; including their physical, emotional, social, linguistic, communication and cognitive development.  You are required to observe and assess the developmental needs of children and young people in all aspects of their development, including physical, emotional, social, and linguistic and communication.  You are required to reflect your observation and assessment findings and identify how they will impact on your practice.  You will then be expected to work with children and young people and others to plan, implement and evaluate activities and experiences to promote their development.
