Conduct hearings
Sanctions explained
The sanction that can be given by a Preliminary Proceedings Committee is:
Interim Suspension Order
This is an Order that suspends a registrant from the Register whilst investigations are being undertaken into allegations of misconduct that have not yet been found proven. It is only applied where a Committee considers that it is necessary in the interests of the public or the registrant. The total period of suspension cannot exceed two years. Whilst it is in place, the Order will be periodically reviewed. A registrant is not able to call him/herself a social worker (and therefore work as a social worker) or work as a social care worker whilst the Order is in place.
Sanctions that are given by a Conduct or Health Committee are:
Admonishment
This is a stern warning given to the registrant. The admonishment can be placed on the registrant’s entry in the Social Care Register for up to five years. The admonishment will remain on the Care Council’s records and may be taken into account in future proceedings. A registrant is able to continue working whilst the admonishment is in place.
Suspension Order
This is an Order suspending the registrant from the Register and can be made for up to two years. When an Order is in place, the registrant is not able to call him/herself a social worker (and therefore work as a social worker) or work as a social care worker.
Removal Order
The registrant is removed from the Register and is therefore unable to call him/herself a social worker (and therefore work as a social worker) or work as a social care worker.
