Guide for workers referred to the Care Council
What happens at the end of a Conduct hearing?
At the end of the hearing, the Conduct panel have three different sanctions they can impose.
Admonishment which is a warning that is placed on record for up to five years. The registrant can carry on working as a social worker, social work student or social care worker while the Admonishment is in place. Any employer or member of the public who contacts the Care Council to check a person’s registration will be told about the Admonishment
Suspension Order which removes a registrant from the Register for a set period (up to a maximum of two years), and stops him/her working as a social worker, social work student or social care worker. At the end of the period of suspension, the registrant’s name will be restored to the Register automatically
Removal Order which means removing the registrant’s name from the Register, therefore stopping the registrant working as a social worker, social work student or a social care worker. The individual’s name will only be restored to the Register if a Restoration Committee decides that this is appropriate following an application at a future date.
Appeals
A registrant has the right to appeal against a decision of a Care Council for Wales Preliminary Proceedings Committee (PPC), Conduct Committee or Health Committee to the First-tier Tribunal (Care Standards).
