How to apply to register with another UK social care council

You should register with the Council where your work address is. Therefore, most people will only need to register with one Council.

The General Social Care Council only registers social workers and social work students, so social care managers and workers working in Wales are very unlikely to need to register with another Council.

You can read about who might need to apply for registration with an additional council in the Questions and Answers document on the right hand side.

If you register with more than one UK Care Council: please note that from 1 April 2012, each Council with which you are registered will charge you an annual fee for your registration at the time your annual fee becomes due. You will also need to maintain your registration with each Council with which you are registered separately, notifying each Council with which you are registered of any change of address or contact information. When you are coming to the end of your three year registration period, you will also need to renew your registration with each Council with which you want to remain registered; the Councils will each send you a reminder.

If you are a social worker who will no longer be working in Wales, if you still require registration you will need to contact the other council or look on the relevant website for information about how to apply to register with them. The UK care councils are no longer able to facilitate transfer between councils. The websites of the other UK care councils are on the right hand panel..

To leave the Care Council Register, please notify us and we will send you a voluntary removal form and advice about how to apply to a different council.
