PRTL evidence
Self employed – Endorsing your renewal application and verification of PRTL
If you are self employed then you require 2 employers to endorse your application. Appropriate endorsers are listed in the Verifying and Endorsing Applications Guidance Notes
Wherever possible, your endorsers should complete the renewal form pages for endorsers. They must not be related to you or living with you and should not be in a less senior position to yourself or a co-director or partner in your company.
A person equivalent to a senior representative of a social care employer might be a registered individual of good standing in the community. In place of endorsement, they must agree to supply a personal reference to support your renewal application by vouching for your good character and suitability to register. They must not be related to you or living with you and should have known you for at least 2 years. This might be a registered doctor or nurse or social worker. A social worker writing a personal reference should write from their home address. As they know you in a private capacity, your referee should provide a letter in support of your registration as outlined below:
The personal reference should be a personal letter telling us how long the person has known the registrant and in what context, and commenting to the best of their knowledge on the registrant’s:
- good character
- good conduct
- physical and mental fitness to practise in social work or the field of social care work in which the registrant is employed
- competence
This letter can be enclosed with your renewal form or posted to the Care Council. The Care Council may contact your referee for confirmation.
PRTL evidence to support your record of achievement if you do not have a line manager
If you are a self employed social care manager or worker there is an alternative to submitting a verified PRTL form. You can submit a summary portfolio detailing how you have met the training and learning requirements. This should include evidence to support each item of training and learning you have completed.
Acceptable evidence includes a copy of:
- Module, qualification or award certificate
- Training or course attendance certificate
- A research subject with a reading or reference list
- Evidence of a course you have taught
- Evidence of training/presentation materials you have produced
- Summary of a developmental work experience
- Summary of work undertaken that has resulted in the development of your social care knowledge and skills
- Evidence of attendance at social care forum(s)
- Summary of learning from attending a conference
This portfolio should be as concise as possible and submitted to the Care Council with your renewal form. Only include copies of documents as this portfolio is non-returnable.
