Social Workers trained and qualified outside the UK

Since 1 October 2008 social work qualifications obtained outside the UK have been assessed for equivalency to the UK degree in social work instead of the Diploma in Social Work. The Care Councils across the UK have taken this opportunity to review and streamline the application process for these applicants.

Eligibility to register

In order to be eligible to apply for registration as a social worker, you must hold a professional qualification in social work that is equivalent to the United Kingdom qualification standard.

To register with the Care Council for Wales you must be intending to work or already working in Wales and you must send your application fee with your application form.

Country Assessment Guidance

Country Assessment Guidance drawn up from the experience of the International Recognition Service enables potential applicants and employers to read what qualifications they need to hold, and what evidence they need to submit with their application, before applying.
