Journey of professionalisation

The Welsh Government’s policy paper, Sustainable Social Services for Wales: A Framework for Action, published last year, stated: “We see the quality of professionals and their professionalism as central to responsive and sustainable social services.... We have begun the journey of professionalisation for children’s residential care managers.. we wish to extend and deepen this approach.”

Sustainable Social Services for Wales: A Framework for Action

The Care Council has already begun to work on this approach, bringing forward a programme for professional development for residential child care managers, and involving those managers in its development. This work programme began with the Manager Forums held last autumn. Further meetings of the Forums are now being planned where there will be an opportunity to learn about developments and share your views and experiences, both with your co-professionals and with the Care Council. Look out for your invitation by e-mail or by post. These forums have proved popular, so we hope many will take advantage of the opportunity for a further conversation.
